Glastonbury and the surrounding area ...steeped in ancient history

Our closest town, Somerton is one of Somerset’s most pleasing 17th century arrangement of town buildings and a castellated market cross make this a town that should be on every visitor’s itinerary. Shopping, sightseeing, eating and drinking in Somerton are all a refreshing pleasure. A warm welcome awaits you in a range of individual and specialist shops, traditional pubs and good restaurants. An audio cassette and listening equipment to accompany walks in the town is available from South Somerset Council.

Across the valley, lies the ancient town of Glastonbury, overlooked by Glastonbury Tor with St Michael’s Tower on top. The panoramic views from up there are spectacular. Glastonbury has many well-known sites, for example, Glastonbury Abbey, The Chalice Well & Gardens, The Glastonbury Thorn and The Rural Museum of Somerset. A few miles further on, and there is the spectacular Cheddar Gorge and caves of Cheddar and Wookey Hole. Close by is the magnificent Wells Catherdral and the 800 year old Bishop’s Palace. Nearer to home is Montacute House & Gardens, Haynes International Motor Museum and The East Somerset Steam Railway.
